Principal

Charles J. Frandsen, AIA is the founder and president of Frandsen Architects, PC, which he established in downtown Lawrenceville in 1992. With more than 37 years of architectural experience nationwide, Charles has built a firm recognized for its commitment to excellence, collaboration, and innovation in healthcare design.

A graduate of the Southern College of Technology, Charles possesses extensive expertise in healthcare architecture and construction. He has led the design of hospitals and medical facilities across Georgia, creating solutions that advance patient care, support clinical efficiency, and strengthen communities. His long-standing collaboration with institutions such as emory reflects his ability to deliver forward-looking, cost-effective, and enduring design strategies.

As principal, Charles provides vision and leadership that shape the firm’s direction—fostering a culture of creativity, technical rigor, and client-centered service. His work continues to influence the future of healthcare design in Georgia, ensuring that Frandsen Architects remains a trusted partner in delivering environments that serve both people and progress.

Associate Principal

Erik C. Frandsen holds a professional degree in Architecture from Southern Polytechnic State University and brings over two decades of specialized experience in healthcare design. His expertise lies in creating environments that enhance patient care, staff efficiency, and long-term operational value.

Leveraging advanced Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, Erik translates complex healthcare requirements into clear, buildable solutions. His proactive use of digital modeling helps identify and resolve coordination issues before construction begins—ensuring projects are delivered with precision, efficiency, and confidence.

Erik is passionate about the collaborative design process, working closely with hospital leadership, medical staff, engineers, and contractors to bring shared visions to life. He believes healthcare architecture is about more than buildings—it is about supporting healing, advancing technology, and strengthening the communities each facility serves.

Erik Hotton is a Project Architect at Frandsen Architects, PC, bringing more than three decades of experience in healthcare design, code compliance, and life safety. He joined the firm in 2019 after serving for 26 years as the Georgia State Architect for the Department of Community Health, where he oversaw healthcare facility design review and regulatory compliance across the state.

Earlier in his career, Erik spent three years as a Fire Safety Engineer with the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office and contributed to numerous healthcare projects while with CDH Partners in Marietta. His extensive background provides clients with a unique perspective that blends design expertise with a deep understanding of state and regulatory requirements.

A graduate of Southern Technical Institute (now Kennesaw State University) with a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, Erik became a licensed architect in Georgia in 1991. Today, he applies his knowledge to help healthcare clients navigate complex codes and deliver safe, efficient, and compliant facilities.

Brittany A. Cencula

Lead Interior Designer

Brittany Cencula is the Lead Interior Designer at Frandsen Architects, PC, where she has been shaping healthcare environments since beginning her career with the firm in 2012. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Brittany specializes in creating healthcare interiors that balance functionality, efficiency, and comfort—spaces designed to support patients, families, and staff alike. Her work reflects a foundation of creativity, forward-thinking design, and meticulous attention to detail, all grounded in a thorough understanding of the unique needs of healthcare users.

She is involved in every aspect of the design process, including spatial planning, material and finish selection, lighting design, millwork detailing, FF&E management, and design documentation. By combining technical expertise with a collaborative approach, Brittany ensures that each healthcare environment not only meets rigorous clinical demands but also promotes healing and well-being.
